Oakworth Crematorium refurbishment works complete
The major refurbishment of Oakworth Crematorium for City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council completed last week, providing a calm and sympathetic environment for people to pay their last respects to their loved ones.
The works, which began last summer, included the removal of the previous outdated cremator, demolition of cramped accommodation, the construction of a purpose-built facility and the installation of a new, energy efficient cremator, featuring the latest emission-reducing technology. The extension sits alongside the extensively refurbished and modernised original chapel and waiting room facilities, which will continue to serve burial as well as cremation services.
The £2.5m redevelopment is part of a wider upgrade and development programme that includes new build crematoria at Heaton, where works have now begun, followed by Bierley in the south of the city.
